It is the Mediterranean product par excellence and Portugal is one of the largest producers of this product as ours. The amount abounds but it is the quality that gives letters, either in Tras-os-Montes and Alentejo, the two regions where the oil is produced in greater quantities.
Olive oil is a classic and ubiquitous food in the Mediterranean diet, which has won other continents and kitchens. Olive oil is a vegetable fat sometimes more expensive than oil, often called liquid gold, because in ancient times was used as a bargaining chip between the Mediterranean peoples and the peoples of the Middle East.
Scientifically, olive oil (extra) virgin oil is the juice extracted from healthy olives and perfect ripening conditions, the oil extracted by mechanic mill proceso we know is always virgin olive oil. After being classified chemical and organoleptic this oil is called Extra Virgin, Virgin and Lampante.
Extra virgin olive oil is a 100% natural product and is considered the healthiest fat due to its composition rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and polyphenols with antioxidant properties.
